Delhi: Twitter, now known as X, plans to introduce a fee for new users, as announced by Elon Musk. Under this new policy, new users will need to pay a nominal charge to use features such as liking, posting, replying, and bookmarking tweets.

The change was initially spotted by X daily news, an account that provides regular updates about X. The account noted a change in the website's text that mentioned the implementation of an annual fee for new users. This policy was previously active in New Zealand and the Philippines and aims to reduce spam and enhance the user experience.

Musk supported the update, emphasising that charging new users is essential to control the influx of bots and address the issue of good handles being taken by fake accounts.

The fee is estimated to be around $1, considering that it is priced at $1.75 in New Zealand. At present, this payment policy is only in place in New Zealand and the Philippines.
