OpenAI looking to establish local team in India; taps former Twitter chief Rishi Jaitly

OpenAI has onboarded Rishi Jaitly, the former head of Twitter India, as a senior advisor to help the company facilitate discussions with the government on AI policy matters, according to news reports.

The reports also state that the company is looking to open a local office in India.

As of now, OpenAI doesn’t have an official presence in India, except for the recently approved trademark.

Recently, the co-founder and CEO, Sam Altman, included New Delhi in his global tour in June, where he engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jaitly's formal employment status with OpenAI remains unclear. Nevertheless, he has assumed a role as an advisor, guiding the company in building connections and establishing a presence in India.
