Network-of-the-year-BBDO

India put up its the best ever show at Spikes Asia this year with 54 Spikes including two Grand Prix, 11 Gold, 12 Silver and 29 Bronze Spikes. BBDO India's 'Share The Load' for Ariel Matic won the Grand Prix in Creative Effectiveness while Grey Worldwide's 'Candy Class' for Radio City bagged Grand Prix in Radio. Last year too, India had won two Grand Prix for 'Kan Khajura' and 'I am Mumbai' campaigns.

BBDO India led the charge with over 15 medals that included a Grand Prix, four Gold, two Silver and eight Bronze medals. Leo Burnett and JWT won six medals each where the former had the edge with three  Gold Spikes. Ogilvy & Mather and Publicis won five medals each followed by Medulla Communications with four and Rediffusion Y&R with three medals.

Along with a Grand Prix, Grey Worldwide bagged a Silver Spike while Taproot Dentsu won two Silver Spikes. L&K Saatchi & Saatchi, Contract Advertising, SapientNitro, Mindshare, Eekasauras and McCann Worldgroup won one medal each.

Sandipan Bhattacharyya, Chief Creative Officer, Grey Group India, said, “Grey is elated as winning for good just takes the purpose of creativity so many notches higher. Delighted that we could add a big feather to India's creative hat at the festival. All credit to Radio City and the wonderful team there. They enabled the live lessons and together we got an important life skill into the children's playground. The real winners are the children who put so much effort into the classes by their participation.”

Abraham Thomas, CEO, Radio City, said, “Candy Class is our way of giving back to Mumbai in a special way. The concept blended well with our brand philosophy of Rag Rag Mein Daude City, which strives to reach out to the heart of the city. This award is a recognition for the power of an idea and that of the medium that was used to implement that idea. Candy class should soon scale up and spread to more cities and we are happy to enable underprivileged children to learn spoken English.”

This year, a record-breaking 5,132 entries were received across 20 categories and two new Spikes – Music and Digital Craft – were honoured.

Terry Savage, Chairman of Spikes Asia, said that this year's award-winning work had set the benchmark of excellence across the region. “It's inspiring to observe the year-on-year growth of the Festival, where we can award work that has a distinctly regional identity, while also being truly world-class. Spikes Asia is setting the bar of excellence for the industry," commented Savage.

The 2016 award winners are:

Nicole McMillan, Vice-President of Marketing for the Asia-Pacific region within the Wrigley Company, a subsidiary of Mars Incorporated, accepted the Advertiser of the Year Award on behalf of Mars.

Network of the Year was presented to BBDO with Y&R coming second and Leo Burnett in third place.

Colenso BBDO, Auckland received the Agency of the Year award. Second was Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and third went to Dentsu Inc., Tokyo.

Nine BBDO offices across the Asia Pacific network collected 86 awards, including six Grand Prix, two Creative Effectiveness Spikes, 24 Gold, 20 Silver and 33 Bronze trophies, as well as a Spike for Music. Jean-Paul Burge, Chairman & CEO BBDO Asia, said, “We aim to deliver the most creative and most effective work to every client, in every corner of our region. In changing and sometimes challenging times, winning Network of the Year, and doing it for the third year running, goes a long way in demonstrating that our mantra of the work, the work, the work is more relevant than ever.”

The Independent Agency of the Year was awarded to Party, Tokyo. Second place went to Fred & Farid Shanghai and third to Enjin, Tokyo.

Starcom, Melbourne was awarded Media Agency of the Year. Mediacom New Zealand, Auckland received second place and third went to PHD, Auckland.

Finch, Australia received the Spikes Palm Award, honouring the most awarded production company in the eligible sections. Second came Guilty Content, Australia and third, Revolver/Will O'Rourke, Australia.

15 Spikes from 140 entries were awarded - 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 9 Bronze
