Sabse Bada Kalakar replaces Indian Idol

(L-R) Boman Irani, Raveena Tondon and Arshad Warsi

As Indian Idol came to a wrap on April 2, Sony Entertainment Television is already ready to bring in a new reality show to replace the singing talent hunt show. A first attempt in the acting reality genre by the channel, Sabse Bada Kalakar will work on the same format as Super Dancer, wherein there was a mentor for each participant. The new show will go on air on April 8, at 8 pm to run every Saturday and Sunday.

The kids acting reality show will showcase acting talent from across the country, picked from a nationwide hunt across 15 cities. 10 acting talents between the age of four and 13 years will be competing for the title of Sabse Bada Kalakar. The channel has got Surf Excel on board as the presenting sponsor for the show.

The show will have three judges — actors Raveena Tandon, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani. In this show, contestants will be seen performing not only in solo acts, but also in duos and group. The channel has launched a specific campaign, ‘Har Kirdaar Nibhane Ko Tayyar — Sabse Bada Kalakar.’

Ashish Golwalkar, Senior Creative Director, Sony Entertainment Television, said, “Sabse Bada Kalakar is our effort to give the children of this country a platform to showcase their talent. We are amazed by the talent we came across during the auditions for the show and we hope that the show gives the kids an opportunity not only to showcase to the world their talent but also inspire and encourage them to do their best.”

Each of the final contestants will be paired with an expert mentor who will guide, nurture and introduce them to new aspects of acting. Over the season, each contestant will touch upon various genres of acting — from topical humour to mythology, human drama to action, thereby ratifying the campaign.

Ranjeet Thakur and Hemanth Ruparel from Frames Production Company, said, “Sabse Bada Kalakar is a larger than life platform which will give the kids an opportunity to not only showcase their talent but also grow. The element of ‘Guru-Shishya Sajedaari’ will enhance their skills and develop them as an all-round versatile actor. Right from the format to the judges, the show is unlike any other seen on television. As always, it’s a delight to partner with Sony Entertainment Television — together we have already had a super hit show, Super Dancer. Sabse Bada Kalakar will be another milestone to our success.”
