While the weekends on the Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) are abuzz with singing talent hunt shows, the first such show has a special place in the viewers' minds.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs, the first singing talent hunt show from Zee TV's stable, is back with its sixth season, to be launched on Saturday and Sunday at 9pm, starting February 25. The channel's top rated show 'Brahmarakshas', a fantasy fiction, will end on February 18 to vacate the slot for the reality show.

If one closely looks at the weekend line-up of the Hindi GECs, the evening primetime are filled with talent hunt shows. Currently on air, Indian Idol on Sony Entertainment Television at 8pm, Rising Star on Colors at 9pm, Dil Hai Hindustani on Star Plus and The Voice India on &TV at 9pm, the shows make you believe that India has singing talent in abundance.

Launched on August 6, 2016, Brahmarakshas was the seventh most watched show in the combined Hindi Speaking Markets (HSM U+R) of 2016, as per BARC India's numbers.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is in its 22nd year boasting of 15 seasons of the singing reality show for adults and five seasons especially tailored for the children, a sub-series titled Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs. The other shows too have their kids' variants, Indian Idol Junior and The Voice Kids. The franchisee (Sa Re Ga Ma Pa) has also been extended to the regional markets, which include Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, among others.

The theme of the show in this season is 'Back To School', where children, all dressed in their school uniforms, will represent their schools. The children will adorn their uniforms till the Gala Round. The show has continued with the format of inclusion of jury from the last season (of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa). The last season of the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa launched in 2016 had introduced a 30-member jury comprising music connoisseurs to aid the selection process.

This season, the kids will be mentored by music composer-turned-actor Himesh Reshammiya, playback singers Javed Ali and Neha Kakkar. While Reshammiya and Ali have been on the show before, Kakkar is appearing for the first time. The show will be hosted by Aditya Narayan in this season, just as the last five seasons.

Amul has come on board as the Presenting Sponsor while Airtel Payments Bank has been signed as the Powered By sponsor for this season.

After screening over 60,000 entries in the gruelling auditions across 27 cities, only 15 of the most striking voices will make it to the stage of Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs. Auditions were carried out across cities such as Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Patna, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Nagpur, Dehradun, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Indore, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
