Rumours and media reports are doing the rounds about ACP Pradyumn's reel death and the end of CID, a fiction crime show on Sony. But dispelling all the talk, Shivaji Satam, the actor who plays the character of ACP Pradyumn, and Danish Khan, EVP and Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television, rubbished the reports.

CID is a fictional crime show launched in January 1998 and had a lot of high points during its nearly two decades of telecast. The show attracted huge viewership and was rated as the most watched show on the genre a few times. While others kept focusing on drama and saas-bahu sagas, CID held on tightly to its position and kept attracting a lot of viewership, especially from kids.

A source close to the channel said, “The only truth in the media reports is that the show and the character are dependent on each other. But neither Satam is leaving the show nor is the channel planning to close it.”

Media reports and WhatsApp messages say how Satam wants to quit the show and that the production house has decided to kill him with an on-screen heart attack in the episode to be telecast on December 26. As per the rumours, since the show and the character are interdependent, the channel will pull the curtains down on the series in January 2017.

Satam denied any such development, saying, “We don't even telecast our original episodes on Monday. We are a weekend show. I, too, am not aware of my death and heart attack as I am feeling very fit and fine.”

About closing the show, he said, “Only Sony entertainment Television can take that call and I have not been told anything about this development.”

CID is in its 19th year while Sony is in its 22nd year. This shows how much the show is a part and parcel of the channel over the years. CID's popularity can be gauged by the kind of conversations that the fiction crime show generates on social media and online forums.

Khan also discarded the media reports, saying, “No. It's not true that we are shutting the show. I think someone is very good at making stories.” He also rubbished the news of a heart attack of the lead character of the show.

CID has gone through a lot of changes, even in the characters and the team of CID. But ACP Pradyumn (Shivaji Satam), Daya (Dayanand Shetty), Abhijeet (Aditya Shrivastava), Frederick (Dinesh Phadnis) and Salunke (Narendra Nath Sen Gupta) are the ones who have been with the show from the beginning.

A few reports went a notch up in reporting that the actor Satam, not the character, had a heart attack, which was not appreciated by the actor. He mentioned how it was a cause of worry and trauma for his near and dear ones.
