The new channel replaces Zee Variasi, and will be the only Hindi GEC in the Malaysian market

Tara-HDPopular shows on Hindi general entertainment channels (GEC) such as The Kapil Sharma Show, Madhubala, Naagin, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, CID and Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Yuddh among others will now be available to viewers in Malaysia. With subtitles in English and Tamil, the shows will be telecast on the newly launched Tara HD, which is now the only Hindi GEC in the Malaysian market.

The channel will be launched by Astro All Asia Broadcasting in Malaysia, replacing the erstwhile channel Zee Variasi, a Hindi channel from ZEEL in Malaysia, on October 19, 2016 for the Astro customers.

Astro Broadcasting's Facebook page mentioned, “Please be informed that Zee Variasi will no longer be available from October 1. Watch out for new Hindi channel, Tara HD, from October 19, 6am. Tara HD is the first 24-hour Hindi entertainment channel in Malaysia and is available as part of the Astro Family HD pack for Astro customers and on prepaid basis for NJOI customers. The channel features local and international dramas, movies, concerts, award shows, reality shows, documentary and lifestyle programmes.”

It was learnt that Mumbai-based Helios Media has partnered with the Malaysian channel for content strategy and consultation. The other shows on the channel will include Chakravartin Ashok Samrat, Ishqbaaz, Comedy Nights Bachao and others.

The channel will also have an original docu-series on film star Shah Rukh Khan, which will be a part of the original content on the channel. The channel will also have content from local production houses in Malaysia, including a singing talent hunt show. Astro All Asia Broadcasting already operates a Hindi movie channel called BollyOne HD in the market.

The channel was launched with the screening of Bollywood blockbuster Sultan on October 19. As reported in a lot of local media publications in Malaysia, Rajamani Chellamuthu, Astro Senior Vice-President of Indian Customer Business said, “Astro is committed to bring the best Indian content to viewers. In 2014, we launched BollyOne HD, a 24-hour Hindi movie channel showcasing the latest movies, and the response has been amazing. With the launch of Tara HD today, we will deliver even more Hindi entertainment including dramas, movies, concerts, award shows, reality shows, documentary and talk shows. Tara HD offers the best Bollywood entertainment for audience from all age groups. We've handpicked our movies as well as dramas from popular channels like Colors, Star Gold and Star Plus to deliver a good range of entertainment content.”

Tara HD will also offer content from Pakistan.
