Rio Olympics garners 228 million Impressions in week 33

The second week of the global event witnessed a larger viewership than in week 32 across nine channels of telecast in India

It seems that Rio Olympics 2016 has been one of the most remarkable sporting events for the Indian sub-continent. The nation, which has worshipped cricket for the longest time, is now seeing a shift in consumption to other non-cricketing sports.

In Week 33 (August 13 - 19) of BARC data, the sporting event garnered a total of 228 million Impressions across nine channels -- Doordarshan, Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4, (SD+HD).

According to BARC data, Impressions for the top 10 sports are as follows:

Athletics garnered as many as 63.3 million Impressions, followed by women's badminton final between India and Spain (PV Sindhu) with 54.4 million Impressions. The badminton match had a total of 22.3 million Impressions while the badminton semi-final match between Spain and China witnessed 16.8 million Impressions. Wrestling garnered as many as 15.7 million Impressions.

Gymnastics has 12.6 million Impressions, while the women's badminton semi-final match between India and Japan (PV Sindhu) had as many as 8.4 million Impressions. The quarter final match for men's hockey between Belgium and India garnered as many as 7.5 million Impressions. Lastly, tennis witnessed 7 million Impressions.
