The 18th Asianet Film Awards 2016 were held at a glittering ceremony recently at Adlux Convention Centre Angamali, Kochi. The 10,000-strong crowd included prominent personalities from the film industry and socio-cultural spheres.

Asianet will telecast the awards function on February 20 and February 21 (Saturday and Sunday) from 7 PM onwards.

Superstar Mohanlal's magical performances in films in various languages through his 36- year-long career were showcased in 'Lalettan @ 36' to an enthralled audience. The actor was honoured for his long and outstanding film career. Ganagandarvan KJ Yesudas was conferred the Asianet Life Time Achievement Award. He was felicitated by Asianet Managing Director K Madahan for his outstanding contributions to the Indian film industry.

The event was attended by a cross-section of stars from the South Indian film industry. Leading Malayalam artistes and a mix of stars from both Tollywood and Bollywood put up colourful performances. The celebrities who attended the awards ceremony included Sibi Malayil, Kamal, Sheela, Meena, Meera Jasmine, Prathap Pothen, Suresh Krishna, Reenu Mathew, Namitha Pramod, Joju, Ambika, Peete Haien, Sivada, Gopi Sundar, Rahul Madhav, KPAC Lalitha, Nikki Galrani, Nikhitha, Vimala Raman, Bindu Panicker, Manoj K Jayan, Anusree, Priyanka, Deepak Dev, Priyal Gor, Anupama Parameswaran, Tini Tom, Sijoy Varghese, Muthumani, Aparna, Parvathy Ratheesh and Padmaraj Ratheesh.

'Ennu Ninte Moideen' won the award for the best film. The award was accepted by the film's producers Binoy Shangarath and Regi Thomas. Directors RS Vimal and Alphonse Puthran won the award for Best Director for the movie 'Premam'.  Prithvi Raj won the Best Male Actor award for his role in 'Ennu Ninte Moideen' and Parvathy was adjudged the Best Female Actor for the films 'Ennu Ninte Moideen' and 'Charlie'. Nivin Pauly won the award for popular actor for outstanding performances in various movies.

'Premam' won the award for the best popular film. Nedumudi Venu was adjudged best actor in a negative role. Vijay Yesudas was conferred the award for the best male singer. Among other cine world celebrities honoured at the Asianet Film Awards were Vijayalakshmi (best female singer), Lena (best character artiste-female), Biju Menon (best character artiste-male) and Aju Varghese (best actor in a comic role).
