Premiering on Independence Day, NDTV Prime's 'Operation Everest' is a documentary film saluting the spirit of the Indian Army soldiers who aimed to conquer the highest peak in the world.

However, destiny had other plans. After a series of devastating earthquakes hit Nepal on April 25, 2015, their plans went awry. On their ascent to the Khumbu Glacier, 22 climbers were trapped in a series of avalanches while the remaining members were caught at the Everest Base Camp.

The documentary tracks the life changing journey of Major Ranveer Singh Jamwal and his team from New Delhi to Kathmandu. Everything was going as planned but on April 25, they were confronted by nature's fury. That was the day of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook Nepal and uprooted the lives of many.

While Nepal was reeling under the aftershocks, the earthquake caused a massive impact in the Himalayan belt. Out of the 30-member team, 22 soldiers of the Indian Army, along with NDTV's location producer Aamir Rafique Peerzada, were trapped on the world's most dangerous glacier – Khumbu.

The earthquake resulted in a huge avalanche that swept away the entire Everest base camp. The Khumbu ice fall created many more deeper crevasses, leaving the team grappling with fate.

The documentary also showcases the Indian Army's fight for survival when they changed their role from 'summiteers' to 'saviours'.

This enthralling story of survival will unfold on NDTV Prime on Saturday, August 15, at 1:00 pm, with repeat telecast at 9:00 pm the same day.
