IBM's Vanitha Narayanan appointed Chairperson of American Chamber of Commerce in India

With this, Narayanan becomes the first lady in the last 23 years to assume the post of Chairperson at Amcham-India

The American Chamber of Commerce in India (Amcham-India) has announced the appointment of Vanitha Narayanan, Managing Director, IBM India as the new Chairperson of the Association. With this, Narayanan becomes the first lady in the last 23 years to assume the post of Chairperson at Amcham. The decision was taken at the recently held 23rd Annual General Meeting of Amcham.

With 27 years of experience, Narayanan is also a member of IBM's Growth & Transformation Team, a member of IBM's Global Women's Council and Chairperson of the board of governors for National Institutes of Technology (NIT) heading NIT-Suratkal. She is responsible for all of IBM's sales, marketing, services and global delivery operations in the India/ South Asia region, including operations in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Commenting on the development, Ajay Singha, Executive Director, Amcham-India, said, “I welcome Vanitha Narayanan to the team. I am sure with her experience and able guidance, the Association will reach new heights.”

“I am truly delighted to have assumed the post of Chairperson of Amcham-India. I shall strive towards making Amcham a more credible voice for American business in India,” Narayanan added.

Richard Rekhy, Chief Executive Officer, KPMG, India and Gulshan Kumar Sachdev, Managing Director, Quaker Chemical have been appointed as Vice-Chairmen. Atul Dhawan, National Leader, Clients & Markets & Regional Managing Partner (North), Deloitte Haskins & Sells has been appointed as honorary Secretary and Treasurer of Amchan-India.

The American Chamber of Commerce in India is an association of American business organisations operating in India. Headquartered at New Delhi, the association was established in 1992 with few members and now has over 500 members. Amcham-India is a member of the US Chamber of Commerce, Washington DC as well as the Asia Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC). It has five Regional Chapters located at Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Hyderabad. The incumbent US Ambassador to India is the Honorary President and Amcham-India enjoys the support of the US Embassy in fulfilling its objectives. CEOs of leading US companies constitute the elected board of Amcham-India.
