DigiCableThe Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has cancelled the permanent registration of Digicable, one of the largest cable distribution companies and Multi System Operators (MSO), with a strong presence in National Capital Territory of Delhi, Municipal Council of Greater Mumbai, and Kolkata Metropolitan Area. The registration of Digicable was cancelled on September 3, 2014 due to denial of security clearance by Ministry of Home Affairs.

The MSO that was given permanent registration on June 12, 2012, claims to cater millions of subscribers who are spread across 125 locations in 46 cities and 14 states across India in a very short span of time.

Earlier, MIB had cancelled DAS registration of Digicable Comm Services Pvt. Ltd, Digicable's subsidiary operating in Kolkata due to denial of security clearance by MHA on July 18, 2014.

It may be recalled that the government had cancelled the permanent registration of Sun Group's cable television arm, Kal Cables, last month after it was denied security clearance by MHA. Opposing the decision, Kal Cables approached Madras High Court that quashed the Union government's order cancelling the permit. In its decision on September 5, 2014, the Madras High Court, however, allowed the Ministry to issue a fresh notice, if so desired, after giving an opportunity to Kal Cables to present its case.
