In a final effort to put an end to what has been a messy ride for the Creative Abbys in Goafest 2013, the Abby Awards Governing Council (AGC) decided last evening to set up a Super Jury comprising the 11 Jury Chairmen this year to decide all complaints of plagiarism and borrowed work plaguing winning entries.  The Super Jury is slated to meet in a week's time.

Shashi Sinha, Chairperson of the AGC, said, “The Super Jury will vote on all complaints agasisnt certain Abby winners. The Jury heads are all highly respectable creative minds, they have regularly been on various international juries, and their collective wisdom and decision will be final. They will take a call only on complaints of plagiarism and non-original work. We have received complaints against 18 or 19 such winning entries.”

Sinha emphasised that the Super Jury will review only complaints against plagiarism and not withdrawn entries like that of Tata Salt Lite by Leo Burnett.

Among the winning entries that will come under scrutiny of the Super Jury are:

  • McCann's Grand Prix winning Print ad for ATSS. The insinuation is that the idea for the McCann work was picked from a print ad for a Mio GPS print ad done in February 2008.
  • DDB Mudra's silver Abby in Print for its work done for an Electrolux campaign. The campaign which reads 'Keep them new with Fabriguard drum' was found to be very similar to a campaign for LG washing machines, created by Y&R, Sao Paulo, Brazil in April 2012.
  • BBDO Proximity's DHL campaign which won two gold and one silver Abby. The insinuation doing the rounds is that the work done by Ogilvy Hong Kong was plagiarised by BBDO Proximity for the DHL work.
