Rape Survivors turn Citizen Journalists on CNN-IBN

As India awaits swift justice in the case of a 23-year-old woman who was brutally gang raped in New Delhi, doubts are being raised over how seriously the authorities take the cases of sexual violence and harassment.

This week on the 'Idea presents Citizen Journalist Show', rape survivors turn Citizen Journalists to protest against the archaic 'two-finger test' carried out by doctors to determine rape. Despite the invasive and humiliating nature of the test and criticism by human rights groups, it is admissible in Indian courts. The CJs talk of the insensitivity of the doctors and how the system fails them over and over again. Mrinal Satish, Associate Professor at Law University, Delhi, talks about this controversial test and points out various loopholes in the medical tests performed to determine rape. Also on the show, CJ Swastayan sends a video blog about how unsafe she feels living in Hyderabad. She asks whether it is her clothes, her looks or merely her existence as a woman that makes her so vulnerable.
