December 14, 2012:

publive-imageReal Heroes, CNN-IBN's flagship initiative, has bagged the prestigious Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity, in the Electronic Media category for showcasing outstanding stories of two individuals who are selflessly working for women's rights. This is the second year in a row that Real Heroes has won this award. Tridip Mandal, Associate Executive Producer, CNN-IBN, received the award from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at a grand function in Lucknow on December 13, 2012.

Real Heroes is a path-breaking concept that honours ordinary Indians who have done exceptional work in their fields with little or no recognition. The Laadli Award was conferred on Real Heroes for featuring the inspirational stories of Bina Kalindi, a 14-year-old girl who raised her voice against child marriage; and Prakash Kaur, who gave a home and secure future to 60 unwanted and unclaimed newborn girls.

Speaking on the occasion, Anubha Bhonsle, Senior Editor, CNN-IBN, said“Our fight against gender issues has always been our priority. We want to uproot such ludicrous practices from the country. These awards motivate us to continue our fight against such issues and to free our countrymen from any kind of discrimination.”

The Laadli Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity, by Population First, acknowledge the efforts of various media in promoting public awareness and understanding of gender issues through gender-just perspectives, portrayals and analysis programmes, policies, social trends and behaviours.
