Ladies, put on those running shoes and get set to be part of India's first ever women's half marathon, brought to you by DNA, India's fastest growing English daily.

The theme of the half marathon, I CAN, sums up the attitude of women achievers in various fields. These achievers — be they the youngest Indian woman to climb Mount Everest or a record breaking female cricketer — have systematically demolished status quo with tiresome regularity. DNA believes this I CAN spirit can inspire more women to reach greater heights. What better way to start than by signing up for this event that is aimed at raising awareness about three social issues that DNA and its partners have identified — Education of the Girl Child, Women's Safety in Public Places and Awareness of Cervical Cancer.

Gautam Dalal, VP Marketing, DNA, said, “DNA will continue to create path-breaking opportunities to connect with its readers. From the time we launched in 2005, we have ensured that every section of our paper remained conscious of the reader and especially the women. DNA, in its mercurial rise of 6 lakh copies in Mumbai, has a large number of working women as its readers. This prompted the  launch of the first ever half marathon for women. To ensure more and more women take part in this initiative, we also have brought in a 'Spirit' run of 10 km and a 5 km 'Fun' run.”

Stayfree Advanced is the presenting partner for this half marathon since it found the initiative reflected its own campaign thought that encouraged women to get out of their comfort zone and take charge of the future.

In the words of Neeraj Goyal, General Marketing Manager, Johnson & Johnson Limited, “Stayfree is extremely happy to present the first ever women's half marathon in India with DNA. Stayfree believes in bringing positive and meaningful changes in the lives of women and is becoming an enabler by providing opportunities to women so that they can contribute in bringing about such change. 'I Can Women's Half Marathon' is a perfect platform for women to come out and support the causes that are close to their hearts and Stayfree supports them in this endeavor.”

The marathon registration costs Rs 350/- and will be shared among DNA's partners working in the fields mentioned above including Tata Memorial Hospital and the NGO Akanksha.

In the run up to the marathon, DNA will educate and inform its 13.5 lakh readers in Mumbai and marathon participants about the three causes. Participants can opt to run the 21.097 km 'half-marathon', a 10 km 'Spirit Run' and a 5 km 'Fun Run'.

DNA has lined up all forms of traditional media such as print, billboards, OOH screens, radio, internet and all BTL mediums to attract participation along with corporate contact drives
