The final shortlist of nominations included competitors from CNN International, Metro TV in Indonesia and NDTV in India.

This is the fifth time Karan Thapar has won the Best Current Affairs Presenter Award in the 15 year history of the Asian Television Awards. His earlier successes were in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007.

The subject was Jethmalani's controversial decision to re-join the Bharatiya Janata Party. The interview ended abruptly when Jethmalani walked out in anger over questions which explored allegations of opportunism surrounding his return to the BJP.

Besides Devil's Advocate, CNN-IBN won 2 more awards. The channel's primetime news show 'India At 9' was awarded the Best News Program while 'Citizen Journalist Show' won the Best Cross-Platform Content award.

Also, NDTV 24x7 won the Best Talk Show award for 'Betrayal of Bhopal'.
